What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It's an easy way to receive updates from your favorite sites. Subscribing to RSS feeds brings headlines and summaries to you in one easy-to-find place. Clicking on a link takes you to the full story.

How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?

• Install a news reader (or aggregator) that shows the RSS feeds you've subscribed to.

Using your news reader, you can see all the headlines from your favorite Web sites. Commonly used news readers include Bloglines and NewsGator. Go to Wikipedia for an extensive list of news readers.

• MyYahoo! and Personalized Google homepage users can add RSS feeds to their personal page (see below).
• Add feeds by clicking the orange RSS button  next to the feed.

Depending on the service you're using, you may need to manually copy and paste the URL that appears when you click the orange button. If you click an RSS link but do not have a reader installed, you will see XML code in your browser.

MyYahoo! users 

• Copy the RSS feed's URL.
• Go to your MyYahoo! homepage.
• Select the "+Add Content" link located under the MyYahoo! search bar.
• To the right of the "Find Content" box, click on "Add RSS by URL".
• Paste the RSS feed's URL into the URL search box. Click "Add".

The headlines will now appear when you return to your MyYahoo! homepage.

Personalized Google homepage users

• Copy the RSS feed's Title. For example: UPDS: News Releases 
• Go to your Google homepage and click the "Add Content" link in the upper left-hand corner of the page.
• Click "Create a Section."
• Paste the RSS feed's Title into the "Search by topic or feed URL" box.
• Click "Go."
• Select one of the search results listed.

The headlines will now appear on your Google homepage.
