UPDS has rates already in place for Lumber and Produce shippers. Customers seeking other One Plus rates from UPDS can submit a rate request or contact a Carload Solutions representative. For rail-only rates on Union Pacific, visit the UPRR website.
All UPDS shipments are subject to Terms and Conditions.
Unless credit already has been established with Union Pacific Railroad, UPDS requires that a credit application be completed prior to conducting business.
Contact our Finance Department with questions at 1-800-262-0718.
Once customers have accepted the UPDS rate and service proposal and have established credit with UPDS, we recommend they contact a Carload Solutions representative prior to shipping. This will ensure that the shipment is set up correctly in our system. We will also facilitate communication with transload operator(s).
Even though Union Pacific Distribution Services is not directly liable for cargo loss or damage, it is important to deliver customers’ goods in good condition. All railcar shipments should be loaded either according to American Association of Railroad’s pamphlets or according to origin rail carriers’ specifications.
To ensure that cargo is handled, stored and transported in a safe, proper and damage-free manner, UPDS requests that customers submit, in writing, to UPDS and its business partners specific material handling, storage, invoicing and/or transportation requirements prior to tendering loads. Customers shall also submit, in writing, changes to these requirements once shipments begin. At no extra cost to the customer, UPDS can make arrangements with field managers from originating rail carriers who are experts in areas of material handling, loading, blocking and bracing. They can review customers’ loading and securement practices, and recommend solutions in order to reduce the risk of lost or damaged cargo.
For rail shipments that originate on the Union Pacific Railroad, UPDS relies on Union Pacific’s Damage Prevention team to assist customers in identifying, preventing or minimizing potential cargo loss and damage. See UP's Damage Prevention page for more information, including loading guidelines.
Our Liability & Claims page provides additional details.
The Transload Bill of Lading is designed for integrated rail-truck or truck-rail shipments. It is required in place of the standard Union Pacific Bill of Lading when UPDS is invoicing for the entire shipment including transloading.
The Transload Bill of Lading is a step-by step process that permits customers to include all required pick-up and delivery information in order for UPDS to track shipments, communicate shipment information in advance to rail carriers and transloaders, and properly invoice for the entire shipment.
Like UPRR's Bill of Lading customers, Transload Bill of Lading customers can save repetitive shipping patterns. The Transload Bill of Lading goes further by allowing customers to save patterns that include trucking.
