Request for Service & Rates

Loss & Damage Prevention

Even though Union Pacific Distribution Services is not directly liable for cargo loss or damage, it is important to deliver customers’ goods in good condition.

To ensure that cargo is handled, stored and transported in a safe, proper and damage-free manner, UPDS requests that customers submit, in writing, to UPDS and its business partners specific material handling, storage, invoicing and/or transportation requirements prior to tendering loads. Customers shall also submit, in writing, changes to these requirements once shipments begin.

UPDS also relies on Union Pacific’s Damage Prevention team to assist customers in identifying, preventing or minimizing potential cargo loss and damage. At no extra cost to the customer, UPDS can make arrangements with field managers who are experts in areas of material handling, loading, blocking and bracing to review loading and securement practices and recommend solutions and improvements to reduce risk of lost or damaged cargo. See UP's Damage Prevention page for more information, including loading guidelines.

Our Terms and Conditions page provides details on liability and claims.
