Lowes Honors Union Pacific Distribution Services

Omaha, NE, March 8, 2007 – UPDS has received the 2006 Outstanding Program Development award from Lowes, the second largest home improvement retailer in the world.

At the Lowes Carrier Conference in Wilkesboro, N.C., Lowes recognized carriers with excellent performance. UPDS was recognized for developing the "Tile Program" which manages Lowes’s supply chain for tile shipments from manufacturer to the distribution center. UPDS, with assistance from UPRR, KCSM & CSXT crafted a program that allowed Lowes to recognize double-digit cost savings and move more density to its distribution centers than its previous truck-only offering. The program has flourished by doubling the lane offerings and tripling volume. Its success has prompted Lowes to expand to other manufacturers in Mexico.

"It took some time to figure out the best process. Once we understood Lowes’ overall transportation vision, we were able to work with other carriers and our UPDS team to build a program that fulfilled this need. Watching the success of this program was exhilarating." said LaKeisha Gatson-Dunham, senior business manager-Union Pacific Distribution Services.

The Lowes' award recognizes UPDS' ability to bring multiple modes and carriers into a single product that meets customer needs. Whether companies are looking for something as simple as better shipment management or something as comprehensive as supply chain management services, UPDS is positioned to assist.
