Supported Transaction Sets

Motor Carrier Load Tender (204)

The shipment information/load tender, or 204, is the transaction set that provides the carrier with information on the pickup and the delivery of a load. This is the electronic form of the Advance Shipment Notification fax that you may currently receive from Union Pacific Distribution Services (UPDS.) Utilizing EDI, information can be extracted from the UPDS Order Management System and then transmitted through a third party Value Added Network (VAN) to the carrier in a standard format. By using EDI, you will see the following:

  • Reduction in telephone time and cost
  • Reduction in staff due to the elimination of paperwork and manual procedures
  • Increase in data accuracy

Shipment Status (214)

The Shipment Status, or 214 transaction, allows UPDS to receive data on the status of a load tendered to the carrier. More specifically, the information within the 214 transaction will provide UPDS with up-to-date information on the progress of the load and any change to delivery commitments en route. This includes an appropriate reason code for the any changes. Data that is provided to UPDS consists of the following items:

  • Arrived at Pickup Location
  • Departed Pickup Location
  • Arrived at Delivery Location

This information will permit:

  • Proactive problem resolution
  • Availability of service monitoring information

UPDS expects the 214 transaction to be sent within 15 minutes of the actual occurrence of the event.

Invoice (210 )

The invoice transaction allows UPDS to receive and send invoices using the industry standard EDI format. This transaction set helps to eliminate errors in paper based invoicing and allows for more timely payments.

Application Advice (824 )

The application advice allows UPDS to receive and process responses to other transaction IE 214s and 210s. This transaction allows UPDS to take action on data errors and to make the appropriate corrections.
